Turkish retreat, June 2007
November 3rd, 2006
One week in Yuva, an eco-holiday retreat secluded deep in natural surroundings. From June 18th, 2007, with Jim Tarran
Yuva is a wonderful, secluded eco lodge, where you can relax in peaceful natural surroundings right by the sea.
The area is called Faralya, itself part of the ‘Lycian Way’. Guests arriving for the first time are always amazed at the stunning location, one of south-west Turkey’s best kept secrets.
Yuva means ‘home’ or ‘nest’ in Turkish, and Yuva Eco Holiday Centre is a ‘nest’ of sustainable living, combining traditional lifestyles, organic gardening, renewable energy, environmentally conscious tourism and the practice of the healing arts.
It is set amongst 40 acres of protected pine forest, on the Teke Peninsula, an awe-inspiring region steeped in the mysteries of ancient history, and known as Lycia (the land of light).
Described by Homer, the Lycians were independent seafaring warriors, who settled here around 1400 BC. The most distinctive archaeological features are the unusual rock-cut tombs, copies in stone of their houses and temples.
The accommodation is simple and practical, blending the benefits of modern conveniences with the character of nine village-style dwellings. There are four rustic, traditional Anatolian style houses, built of natural materials such as cedar wood, stone, mud and straw. Each building has two spacious twin or double-bedded rooms, overlooking the bay. In addition, there are four single log cabins. Bedding is made of pure Turkish cotton. All rooms have an en suite shower and toilet, with hot water supplied by Solar Energy. The double/twin rooms offer spectacular views of the Mediterranean.
Yuva serves delicious vegetarian and vegan meals, using many local organic ingredients. Menus are drawn from Turkey’s rich culinary traditions and centuries-old village food preparation methods and contemporary international wholefood cuisine. The dining area is a covered terrace, with views of the sea.
The nearest Airport is Dalaman (one and half-hours). Antalya Airport is at 3.5 hours distance. There are pick-up services to and from Dalaman and Antalya Airports.
Jim will pour his familiar mix of informed, inspired teaching in the yogic arts, and there will plenty of opportunity to ask questions and to go deeper with your practice.
All bookings are taken by contacting Free Spirit Travel on 01273 564230 and talking to Jilly or Deborah
