Yoga for adults with learning difficulties

November 3rd, 2006

Introductory training day
Who is this day suitable for? This is an introduction to yoga techniques appropriate for those with a learning difficulty. The day is aimed at parents, carers and support workers interested in using yoga techniques to improve the quality of life for those they care for.

Some experience of yoga is preferred before attending the day. The day is also open to qualified yoga teachers interested in expanding their teaching to include those with special needs.

Why Yoga? Through connecting more intimately with the breath and the body and gently moving into asanas (yoga postures), tension begins to fade and the mind and body feel more open and relaxed. On one level, students may see an increase in flexibility, concentration and co-ordination; on another level, a greater sense of peace may emerge within. This one-day introduction will explore how yoga can benefit those with special needs, looking specifically at Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and the Autistic Spectrum. We will be using asana (posture), mantra (chanting) and breathing exercises as tools to enable a deeper connection with ourselves and others.

Who will run the course?
