I started attending yoga classes at local sports centres in South London in the 1990s, as a way of keeping fit, seeing it very much as a form of physical exercise. Over the years I began to notice all the other benefits that regular practice was bringing me, on a mental and emotional level, and also its impact on how I saw myself and my connection with the world around us. I became curious about teacher training, initially as a way to deepen my own practice. But I was also keen to develop the knowledge and tools to share what yoga was bringing to me with others, especially with women at a similar place in life. Women often overwhelmed with responsibility for others: mothers, daughters, carers, workers who put self-care at the bottom of their own to-do lists. Researching courses that would fit in with my day job in children’s publishing and that were in tune with my own practice, led me to the Vajrasati teacher training course in Brighton. Life finally aligned for me to embark on my training in 2023. I can’t wait to share this joyful, accessible yet powerful practice with others.
